In exploring the innovative applications of the Apple Watch, my review paper sheds light on how this everyday gadget can be utilized to record multiple leads of an Electrocardiogram (ECG), akin to a 12-lead ECG typically done in clinical settings. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how this can be achieved:
Activating the ECG app: Ensure the ECG app on your Apple Watch is set up.
Positioning the Watch: The Apple Watch should be worn snugly on the wrist. For additional leads, the back of the watch can be placed against different parts of the body, such as the chest, abdomen, or other hand. Currently, it is reliable that the Apple Watch can mimic 9-lead EKG
Recording the ECG: Open the ECG app and follow the on-screen instructions. Repeat this process with the watch placed on different body parts to collect additional leads.
Compiling the Data: The data from each lead can be compiled to create a multi-lead ECG representation.
Sharing with Healthcare Professionals: It’s crucial to share this data with healthcare professionals for accurate interpretation and analysis.
This methodology brings forth a promising avenue in utilizing accessible technology for advanced health monitoring. However, it’s crucial to note that this method is still in its exploratory stage and should not replace traditional medical assessments. Please see detail in my Review paper published on the Texas Heart Insitute Journal.
